Latest Updates from Our Project:

18 More Tokens, the Final Stretch Goal and a Minor Change
almost 9 years ago – Thu, Feb 25, 2016 at 09:55:37 PM

Woot!  $75,000!

18 more tokens have been added to the full set, including some frequently requested ones.  We shared the first 9 in the last update, so I guess it's time to show them all off.

108 Tokens!  The Full Set has more than doubled since launch, and it's all thanks to your support.

Final Stretch Goal

With 6 days left in the project, I want to give us a final target to reach.

If we can raise $120,000 before the project ends on the morning of Thursday, March 3rd, I will be able to add another 18 cards to the Full Set and 6 more Bonus Tokens for all backers.

When we achieve this final goal, the project will include:

  • 126 Card Full Set
  • 72 Card Token Collections
  • 36 Bonus Tokens

I know it's a strong goal, but I think we can do it with your help.

Talk with your playgroups, your friends, your opponents at events.  If we can spread the word far enough, anything is possible.

Minor Change

As you may know I made a few changes when building the project to make the tokens more compatible with multiple card games and avoid infringing on the IP of existing games.

With that in mind, I made a change to two tokens in the Full Set, Kor Ally and Kor Soldier.  Even though Kor is found in contexts outside of card games, I feel it still too close to existing IP and have changed them to Core Ally and Core Soldier.

As with the Elder Scion, Ms. Lage, etc. you can use these tokens for whatever purpose you desire.

SCG Philadelphia

If you are planning to attend the SCG Legacy tournament in Philadelphia this weekend, make sure to check by Aaron Miller's booth on Saturday.  I will be helping him out in the booth and will have a Playmat and some Tokens on display.

Baked goods from the Amish Bakery in the Reading Terminal market may get you something special.  What, I'm not above bribery.  Also, those donuts are DELICIOUS.

Support Our Friends

Magic the Gathering artist Michael C. Hayes has been running a Kickstarter for his newest art book and the project is down to its last 3 days.

Take a look at his art (its astounding) and you might find a spot for it on your bookshelf like I did.

I look forward to sending out the update when we reach the $80,000 Stretch Goal soon and sharing the 6 Bonus Tokens that will be unlocked.

If only I had a clue as to what they should be.

A Taste of Things to Come
almost 9 years ago – Mon, Feb 22, 2016 at 10:48:45 PM

Now that we are less than $4,000 away from the next expansion of the Full Set, I thought it would be a good time to share 9 of the new tokens that will be added to the Full Set once we hit the next Stretch Goal.

I know that several of you have requested these tokens and I'm so happy to be able to get them printed and share them with you.

There are 9 more tokens that will be added to the Full Set which we will reveal once we hit the next goal.

In addition, I will be sharing the final set of Stretch Goals for the project. Now that we are within sight of the finish line, I want us to set our sights well above the current highest goal and I'll definitely make it worth the effort to get there.

Help Decide the Updated Token Collections

The $90,000 Stretch Goal includes an expansion of the Token Collections from 54 cards to 72 cards and I need your help in deciding what tokens and how many to add to each collection.

If you are getting a Token Collection in your Reward or as an Add On, post a comment on this update with what 18 tokens you would want to add to your collection of choice.  Make sure to specify the Token Collection or I won't know where to record your picks.

I'll be taking suggestions between the time this update goes live and when we reach $75,000, which looks to be pretty soon at the current rate, so make sure to let me know what you think asap.

Thanks as always for your support and continue telling your friends and playgroups about the project.  We've been able to turn this project into something truly special and we can't wait to make it even better with your help.

$60,000 Stretch Goal Unlocked! 6 more Free Bonus Tokens!
almost 9 years ago – Wed, Feb 17, 2016 at 08:42:30 AM

We did it everybody!  We hit $60,000 and we're still only half way through the project!

The next Stretch Goal is unlocked and all backers will receive another 6 Bonus Tokens, bringing the total to 16 free tokens.

We've already shared 4 of the 6 in previous updates, but here they are in case you missed them:

In addition to these tokens, all backers will receive the tokens below as well.

If you're a regular listener of a certain limited podcast, you might recognize these fine fellows:

That's right!  We teamed up with Marshall Sutcliffe from the Limited Resources podcast to make Elmer and Shelly tokens, the unofficial/official mascots of the show.

While neither are in their typical dire straits, Elmer especially, we tried to capture their essence in token form for the LR listening audience.

Marshall was very helpful in promoting the launch of this project and we are so happy to finally be able to show these off.

What Lies Ahead

We've already made some good progress towards the next Stretch Goal and 18 more tokens added to the Full Set, likely thanks to Aaron Miller's project continuing to pick up steam.

If you want a few clues on what might be included in the next expansion of the Full Set, you might want to take a closer look at the list of Tokens in the Commander Collection.

Another Project We Found Interesting

After launching a Kickstarter, you tend to get other projects reaching out to you for cross promotion.  Aaron and I had already set up our Bonus Tokens prior to launch, but recently another creator introduced me to a project that looks pretty neat.

There are a metric ton of playing card projects out there, but something about the diminutive Pipmen Playing cards struck a chord with me.

If you are in the market for a fun set of playing cards with some rather creative art, definitely check out the project.

Thanks as always for the support!

1,000 Backers and a Sneak Peek at the $60k Bonus Tokens
almost 9 years ago – Sun, Feb 14, 2016 at 05:19:37 PM

We hit a major milestone today, with 1,000 backers pledging their support for Classic Art Tokens.

The project wouldn't be where it is without your support and we are ecstatic to reach this goal.

Sneak Peek

We are just a bit away from the $60k Stretch Goal and its 6 additional Bonus Tokens.  With your help (more on that below) we can bring some more awesome into the world.

Since we are so close to the goal, I guess it's ok to give another peak at 3 of the soon to be unlocked Bonus Tokens.

After starting countless games with contests between Rock Lobster, Paper Tiger and Scissors Lizard, I thought it would be fun to have a call out to that more interesting method of determining first player.

Aaron Miller's Collector Tokens

Tomorrow, around Noon EST, Magic Artist Aaron Miller will be launching his line of custom tokens on Kickstarter.

We've teamed up to offer unique Bonus Tokens for backers of both projects.

You can click on the Token to see Aaron's project preview page (it will redirect to the live site once he launches).  Aaron will be offering a Demon token that you can see on there.

I Need Your Help!

We're halfway done with the project and the time has flown by.  Already a backer and want to help hit the next set of Stretch Goals?  Click these button and share the project on Twitter/Facebook:

Thanks for all of your support!  16 days to go!

A Note on Token Exclusivity
almost 9 years ago – Fri, Feb 12, 2016 at 06:56:45 AM

I have received several queries from committed and potential backers about the exclusivity of the tokens made for this project.

My response has so far been that all tokens may eventually be available for purchase after all backer rewards have been fulfilled, but I wanted to clarify this as there will be some variation between what is offered for this project, and what will be available after it is completed.

While these tokens are not going to be a strictly numbered edition, there will be a difference between tokens printed for this project and those that would be printed afterwards.

Each token printed for the project will have the set number of each token included on the bottom left corner.  This information will not be printed on any subsequent print runs of these tokens.  Thus, all tokens printed for the project will be easily distinguishable from those printed afterwards.

While I am not going to create any tokens that are exclusive to the project, as that tends to generate feel-bads over time, I do want to reward you, as a backer, with something unique.

Another difference will be in the availability of Full Set and Uncut Sheets.

After the project is completed, I do not plan on offering the Full Sets and Uncut Sheets for general sale.

They may be available at shows or events we attend (hint GP Portland /hint) but if and when we get an online store set up for the tokens, the Full Set and Uncut Sheets are not planned to be available.

We will be printing enough tokens for this project to cover all rewards and some overage to cover rewards that go missing and inventory for GP Portland and potentially a few other shows.

I hope that sheds a bit of light on the unique offerings of the project.

Onward to the next Stretch Goal!
